Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once invisible variation, has grown in acceptance so quickly.

Omaha/8 begins exactly like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering follows where players can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. Once all the gamblers have in turn called or dropped out, another card is flipped on the turn. a further round of betting follows at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to put together the best high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of entrants often get confused. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, in which the board can be every player's hand, in Omaha hi low the player must utilize precisely 3 cards from the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot might be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It's the best hand out of everyone's, whether that is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the very same notion in almost every poker game.

The lower hand is more complex, but certainly free's up the action. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the worst hand that might be put together, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don't count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

Although it seems complex at the outset, after a few hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have people wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as so many cards are in play, Omaha/8 offers an exciting assortment of wagering options and seeing that you have many players battling for the high, along with a few trying for the low. If you enjoy a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to play Omaha 8 or better.
