Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn't let the detrimental feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning period and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated a number of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and a continuing passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he's learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he likes winning money games on a normal basis.
