Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching turning 1. His grandpa introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse comments from other people destroy his ambition of becoming one of the best poker competitors on the planet.

Phil began competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn't a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. Phil says that he's learning every single day and is very humble about his accomplishments. Phil admits to making errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Even though Phil has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
