Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup anything he could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn't a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he achieved two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he's learning every day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
