In texas hold'em, the first step is to get the game started, and for this the competitors put out a certain sum of money. 'Posting the blinds' is the commonly used phrase for this play. In the following step, the croupier shuffles the cards and gives out 2 cards face down to all players. A regular deck of fifty two playing cards is used in the deal. Then there is the first sequence of betting. This sequence is normally referred to as a "pre-flop".

Following the 1st betting sequence, the first card is thrown away. This tossed aside card is referred to as the "burn card", and this is done to make sure that there is absolutely no treachery. The next three cards are then flipped face up on the table. These cards are 'the flop'. Now comes a second sequence of wagering, after that the croupier burns another card and turns over 1 more card onto the table. After this, participants can use the 6th card to form a five-card poker hand.

Another round of wagering happens, and in many types of poker, here is where the wager amount increases. There is another round of burning a card, and a last placing of a card face-up on the poker table. This is called the "river". Competitors can now utilize any of the 5 cards on the table, or the two cards that they hold, to create a five-card poker hand.

To finish it up there is an additional round of betting. After that, all the remaining players begin to reveal their hands. This is called the "showdown". Clearly, the competitor who shows the best hand is the winner. When players have even hands a sharing of the winnings is considered.

Hold'em is a simple game to pick up, but to achieve knowledge it requires a lot of practice.
